LAWTON, Okla. — The Comanche Nation Housing Authority (CNHA) has expanded its Elder Program to include homeowners insurance expenses as an allowable use of grant funds, providing additional support to help elders protect their homes and maintain long-term housing stability.
Under the updated program guidelines, eligible elders may now use Elder Program grant funds to pay homeowners insurance premiums as well as insurance deductibles for covered repairs. This enhancement is designed to help elders safeguard one of their most valuable assets, their homes, while reducing the financial burden associated with unexpected damage or repairs.
“Homeowners insurance plays a vital role in protecting a homeowner’s most valuable asset from total financial loss due to unexpected events,” said Nora Sovo, Executive Director of CNHA. “By allowing insurance premiums and deductibles to be covered through the Elder Program, we are strengthening our commitment to supporting our elders and ensuring their homes remain safe, secure and protected.”
The addition of homeowners insurance coverage as an allowable expense reflects the Housing Authority’s continued focus on proactive housing support. Unexpected repairs and damage can place significant financial strain on households, particularly for elders living on fixed incomes. By expanding eligible funding uses, the program helps reduce barriers to maintaining safe, stable housing.
Eligible elders may now utilize grant funds to:
- Pay homeowners insurance premiums to obtain or maintain active home insurance coverage
- Pay insurance deductibles associated with covered home repairs
- Access additional financial support that helps preserve home safety and long-term housing stability
This program’s enhancement is part of CNHA’s broader efforts to provide meaningful resources that support the well-being and independence of elders within the community.
