Greetings from the Executive Director

Friday, November 19, 2010 - Lawton, OK

Greetings,

Welcome to the Comanche Nation Housing Authority's new website.  The introduction of the website has been long overdue and I apologize for the delay. First, I would like to introduce myself; my name is Tom Yellow Wolf, the Executive Director for the Comanche Nation Housing Authority.  It is an honor and privilege to serve the Comanche Nation and Board of Commissioners of the Comanche Nation Housing Authority.

My first day on the job was December 15, 2009, nearly a year ago, at which time I began a review of housing authority operations.  The Comanche Nation Housing Authority was a housing authority that needed attention and improvements. As with any organization that has encountered difficult times, change and improvement takes time and presents many challenges.

It has been my job to correct problems, develop new housing programs, review existing policies, assure that CNHA is meeting contractual obligations, train staff, and to maintain compliance with HUD regulations and statutory requirements.  Needless to say challenges will take time and a great deal of work by the staff at CNHA to become successful. Our efforts alone cannot solve all the problems; we will need your help as well.

Over the past year the staff has been busy meeting with many of you to resolve issues and find solutions to problems that ranged from maintenance requests to past due rent or house payments. It is our commitment to find ways to improve housing conditions and services. In the past there was neglect and failure to respond, this is something we are striving to change.

Our country has been undergoing tough economic times and the Federal government has been struggling to meet fiscal responsibilities while continuing to provide assistance to the general public. The Comanche Nation Housing Authority will also face budgetary issues much like the rest of the country.  We will continue to plan for future housing needs which may mean reduction in funds from HUD based on future appropriations from Congress. This will not deter us from working hard to continue to improve while working with fewer funds.

We will be announcing a new Lease Purchase program in the next month or two that will be implemented for two housing projects that are to be constructed in 2011. Once this announcement is made we will begin to take applications. Stay tuned for more on this later.

The staff and I will be utilizing this website to communicate housing news and information that may be helpful to you as a renter or homebuyer. With the holidays approaching the staff will be busy planning for the New Year as well as performing their daily tasks. CNHA intends to publish a newsletter commencing in 2011 as a means of communication that will provide information to tribal members that do not have access to our website. We have not decided if the newsletter will be monthly or quarterly.

We are looking forward to the New Year and working to improve housing conditions and services to the Comanche Nation. The work will be hard yet rewarding when we can work together to achieve new goals. I look forward to working for you.

Tom Yellow Wolf
Executive Director
