Friday, September 09, 2011 - As published in the Lawton Constitution

The Comanche Nation were among 13 Oklahoma tribal communities to receive a portion of $9.941 million in grant money through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

On Thursday, HUD awarded $9,940,959 in grants to improve or create housing and economic development opportunities for low-to moderate-income families.  The Comanche Nation Housing Authority received an $800,000 block grant.

The competitive grants are provided through HUD's Indian Community Development Block grant (ICDBG) Program to support a wide variety of community development and affordable housing activities.

In June, the Comanche Nation Housing authority submitted its application for funding from the ICDBG.  The Comanche Nation authorized the CNHA to apply for the funding to substantially rehabilitate existing homeownership units currently under management.
